Our spring on-campus orientation sessions is your first learning experience at Gwinnett Technical College. Our orientation provides you with opportunities to learn about how to be a successful student, navigate campus, register for classes, and meet with program and academic advisors.

Orientation is required for all new students, including transfer students and dual enrollment students.

Select the date you plan to attend orientation. Registration for on-campus orientation sessions ends 2 days before the orientation session.

If you get locked out, please email GTCRecruitment@GwinnettTech.edu with the subject line: Locked Out. Please include your date of birth and last 4 digits of your social security number in the body of the email. A link to reset the password will be sent to the email.

Students are highly encouraged to be admitted and eligible to register for classes prior to attending orientation. Attending orientation does not mean that you are admitted to Gwinnett Tech.

Campus orientation events will cover a range of information to assist you with completing the enrollment process and to help you navigate college resources, policies, procedures, and other vital information. You will also get the opportunity to personally meet with and connect with the Gwinnett Tech campus community, including advisors, faculty in your program of study, and a range of staff in student services departments.
At campus orientation events, students will select and attend two breakout sessions during their orientation on topics specifically related to their own needs or interests. Please review the list of topics for the breakout sessions below.

Financial Aid 101
An introduction to financial aid planning and understanding your tuition/fees. Attend this session if you are a new student, interested in learning more about financial aid, or have questions about your financial aid.

Registration FAQ
An introduction to using the features of your student account and registering for classes, as well as registration tips. Attend this session if you haven’t registered for your classes or if you have questions about the registration process.

Pre-Healthcare at Gwinnett Tech
Are you interested in a healthcare major? Learn more about being a healthcare student at Gwinnett Tech and gain a competitive edge! Attend this session to learn about what you need to do in order to be admitted to a competitive health care program.

Student Life at Gwinnett Tech
Learn about the opportunities to get involved on campus and network your way to success. Attend this program to learn more about student life activities and other ways to get engaged on campus.

Technology Roadmap
Learn how to access common applications for students, including Dashboard, Banner, and student email. Attend this session to learn more about technology use at Gwinnett Tech.

Blackboard/Online Learning
Blackboard is used in every class at Gwinnett Tech. Get an introduction to Blackboard and learn how to log-in, navigate, and use the system. Attend this session if you have not used an online learning system. All students use Blackboard.

Directions to both campuses.
Lawrenceville campus: Students should follow signs for and park anywhere near Building 700 (Busbee Center). No parking permit is required during orientation.
Alpharetta-North Fulton campus: Students may park anywhere at the campus. No parking permit is required during orientation.

Please bring a photo ID with you to check in during your orientation.

  • Lawrenceville campus: Students will check in at the first-floor lobby of Building 700.
  • Alpharetta-North Fulton campus: Students will check in at the first-floor lobby at the main entrance.

Orientation is an extended event throughout the day, so we recommend you wear comfortable shoes and clothing. You may also like to bring a light jacket or sweater in case you become cold inside during the day.

Yes, students may bring a guest. The limit is 1 guest per student. Children are not permitted at orientation due to the long schedule and academic environment of the event.

9:30 a.m. Orientation Schedule

  • 9:30 a.m. - Welcome Assembly – general information ***required
  • 10:30 .am. - Breakout Session #1 – your chosen topic of interest ***required
  • 11 a.m. - Breakout Session #2 – your chosen topic of interest ***required
  • 11:30 a.m. - Advising session – first semester class selection ***required
    *Please note: your advisor is not available until 11:30 a.m.

Lunch is provided to orientation attendees and their guests, and Student Services department representatives are available to meet with students.
Starting at 12:00 p.m., the afternoon portion of orientation will then have several things students can choose to do, including:

  • Student Services Fair
  • Visit the Gwinnett Tech Bookstore for your student ID
  • Registration lab - receive assistance registering for your first semester classes
  • One Stop - Meet with an enrollment advisor to discuss course selection, financial aid, and admission questions

3:30 p.m. Orientation Schedule

  • 3:30 p.m.- Welcome Assembly – general information ***required
  • 4:30 p.m.- Breakout Session #1 – your chosen topic of interest ***required
  • 5:00 p.m.- Breakout Session #2 – your chosen topic of interest ***required
  • 5:30 p.m.- Academic Program Information Session ***required
    *Please note: your advisor is not available until 5:30 p.m.

Dinner is provided to orientation attendees and their guests, and Student Services department representatives are available to meet with students.
Starting at 6:00 p.m., the remaining evening portion of orientation will then have several things students can choose to do, including:

  • Student Services Fair
  • Visit the Gwinnett Tech Bookstore for your student ID
  • Registration lab - receive assistance registering for your first semester classes
  • One Stop - Meet with an enrollment advisor to discuss course selection, financial aid, and admission questions
