Gwinnett Technical College Hosts Fall GED Graduation Ceremony

GWINNETT – NORTH FULTON – As family and friends filled the campus of Gwinnett Technical College, Friday, December 13, Gwinnett Tech’s Adult Education division reached another milestone, graduating more than 450 GED® students for the fall 2019 semester. Many have had to overcome great obstacles and hardships to get to this moment. Many have waited years to finally wear the coveted cap and gown, and walk across the commencement stage.

Keynote speaker, Dr. Cayanna Good, Assistant Commissioner, Office of Adult Education, Technical College System of Georgia, shared in her keynote address “There are more than a million Georgians without a high school education, you are no longer in that category. I have two requests of you, one thank your support system, whoever saw the more in you and two, encourage anyone who needs to walk the same journey you just have. I hope you never lose the will for more. You owe it to yourself to become everything you have dreamed.”

Dr. D. Glen Cannon, President, Gwinnett Technical College closed the ceremony stating, “You’re here today because a door opened for you. Now another door has opened, take advantage and step through that door. Don’t stop now, you’ve just ensured the brightest future for you to continue that path.”

Eligible students were given the opportunity to participate in the Take Ten+ program while earning their GED. The Take Ten+ program is an opportunity for students to earn a training certification, as well as, their GED simultaneously over a 10-16 week period. The training opportunities available are in fields of medical assisting, phlebotomy, or welding.

Gwinnett Tech offers six adult education centers in Gwinnett (including partnerships with Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department, Gwinnett County Public Schools and Gwinnett Juvenile Court) and three centers in North Fulton, as well as four GED® Testing Centers.
