You work hard for your course credits, and should be able to take them with you wherever you go! Thanks to an articulation agreement between the University System of Georgia (USG) and the Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE), academic standards for freshman English and math classes have been set, allowing you to transfer credit between USG and DTAE schools.
The agreement is as follows.
Approved: The Board approved changes in policy to require institutions to accept transfer core English and mathematics courses (see below) from Commission on Colleges-accredited Department of Technical and Adult Education ("DTAE") colleges and to accept test scores via a crosswalk recorded on transcripts from DTAE colleges. This agreement will become effective for students who enroll in English and mathematics courses beginning January 2002 and who meet the minimum test score requirements for exemption or exit from developmental studies/learning support.
Abstract: Early in 2000, Governor Barnes' Education Commission observed that barriers to transfer between the University System of Georgia ("USG") and DTAE institutions of students who were adequately prepared should be removed. In response to the observation, the USG and DTAE, with the complete support of Chancellor Stephen R. Portch (USG) and Commissioner Kenneth Breeden (DTAE), initiated the "Mini-Core" Project, which focused on freshman courses in mathematics and English. The two goals of the Mini-Core Project were:
- To establish transferable English and mathematics courses (e.g., courses with common content) between DTAE and USG institutions; and
- To honor placement test results between systems.
