Medical Assisting

Medical Assisting

Medical Assistants are essential members of the healthcare provider’s team. Medical Assistants are cross-trained to perform both administrative and clinical duties. Classes at Gwinnett Technical College (GTC) are interactive, hands-on, and are led by Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) with years of experience working directly in the field. Graduates of the Medical Assistant program at GTC are satisfied with the education that they receive, as there is an average 100% graduate satisfaction rate over the past five years.

The goal of the Medical Assisting program is to prepare competent entry-level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behaviors) domain.  Admission to the Medical Assisting program is competitive and the program is only offered full-time, during the day.

The Gwinnett Technical College Diploma level Medical Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program ( upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).  Graduates of the GTC Medical Assisting program are eligible to sit for national certification for medical assisting; over the past five years, GTC graduates have a 92.75% pass rate.  Also, the five-year average for employer satisfaction of GTC graduates is 100 percent.
