"It's a great day to be at Gwinnett Tech and in Gwinnett County, and I applaud the thousands of volunteers throughout the county," said Gwinnett Tech President Dr. Glen Cannon, who was a part of the volunteer tree-planting team on campus.
GDOS, the two-day, countywide community service event, started early Fri., Oct. 24, with the Gwinnett Tech team volunteering for projects that benefited local non-profit agencies. GTC's active role as a Great Days of Service Event Partner included two on-campus and seven off-campus projects.
On campus, volunteers planted over 30 trees around the Busbee Center and Life Sciences Center. While at work, the group commemorated Gwinnett Tech's sixth year as a Tree Campus USA. Among the volunteers were students from the horticulture and radiologic technology programs who also had the chance to learn about proper landscaping and gardening techniques exhibited in the Horticulture Program's urban agriculture garden.
Off-campus, GTC volunteers could be found working for organizations including The Salvation Army, Georgia SPCA, Gwinnett County Veterans Resources Center, Gwinnett DFCS, Habitat for Humanity, StreetWise Georgia and Phoenix High School.
"Gwinnett Great Days of Service is a wonderful way for us to make a difference in the community and show our commitment and support for Gwinnett County," said Jennifer Hendrickson, Director of Institutional Advancement at Gwinnett Tech.
GTC offers more than 50 degree, diploma and certificate student options that can be completed in two years or less. For more information, visit www.GwinnettTech.edu or call 770-962-7580.
