GTC Radiologic Technologists Earn 100-Percent Certification Pass Rate
Gwinnett Tech Program is Perfect for Eight Consecutive Years
Radiologic Technologists from Gwinnett Technical College have cause for celebration this week. For the eighth consecutive year, 100-percent of GTC graduates who took the national certifying exam passed it on the first attempt.
The academic achievement couldn't be better timed: Nov. 3-9 is National Radiologic Technology Week. The annual week aims to recognize the work of professionals across the nation. The celebration takes place every November to commemorate the anniversary of the x-ray's discovery by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on Nov. 8, 1895.
Radiologic Technology Program Director Sally Knab said all 28 of the 2013 graduates passed the American Registry of Radiologic Technologies certifying exam. In addition, the program has maintained its 99.9-percent overall pass rate since 1986.
"The continued success of Gwinnett Tech students on this national exam is a testament to their hard work and to the commitment of their instructors," Knab said. "We couldn't be prouder of these graduates and the high level of patient care they'll take into the workplace."
Radiologic Technologists work closely with doctors and patients to detect injuries and disease. They play an integral role in detection by performing a range of diagnostic imaging examinations, including mammography, magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography.
These certified professionals are employed by general hospitals, veterans administration hospitals, physician's offices, outpatient clinics, and federal and state health agencies.
Gwinnett Tech offers an associate degree in Radiologic Technology and certificate options for Computed Tomography Clinical Specialist and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Specialist. Gwinnett Tech's Imaging Sciences Department holds information sessions each month. The next session is Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Building 200, Room J246, on the Gwinnett Tech campus.
