Chrysler Donates Six Vehicles to Gwinnett Tech Fleet

Students Gain Hands-On Experience with the Technology That Drives Today's Vehicles

The Chrysler Donation Program has donated six late model vehicles, valued at nearly $200,000, to the Automotive Technology Program at Gwinnett Technical College in recent months, expanding the college's impressive automotive training fleet.

The donation includes a 2012 Journey, a 2012 Fiat 500, a 2011 Durango, a 2011 Chrysler 300S, a 2010 Chrysler 300C and a 2010 Dodge Challenger. Each vehicle arrived with less than 1,000 miles. These new Chryslers are welcome additions to GTC's already large training fleet which includes late model vehicles from Kia, Toyota, Nissan, General Motors and more.

"Having a partnership with Chrysler is definitely a plus because the students are able to continuously retool and be able to learn the new skills and technologies that come along," says division director Gail Edwards

As the level of sophisticated electronics in modern cars continues to rise, it's more important than ever for automotive technicians to be proficient with the latest models. With this addition to the program, GTC students will continue to gain invaluable experience working with the leading edge components found in new automobiles.

The donation also gives GTC students a leg-up toward future employment in any of Chrysler's hundreds of dealerships and service centers across the country. Chuck Halsig, the company's manager of vocational education, says Chrysler is able to hire Gwinnett Tech graduates with confidence knowing they've already had their hands on the most up-to-date technology.

"This donation by Chrysler guarantees that the technicians trained at Gwinnett Technical College gain the necessary experience to meet the immediate needs of customers promptly and efficiently," says Halsig.

Graduates of Gwinnett Tech's MOPAR (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, SRT) College Automotive Program earn an associate degree. The college also offers specialized manufacturer's programs in partnership with Toyota and Nissan, plus an associate degree in Automotive Technology. A wide range of certificate options are available for specialties like Auto Electric/Electronic Systems Technician, Automotive Chassis Technician Specialist, Automotive Climate Control Technician, Automotive Engine Performance Technician, Automotive Transmission/Transaxle Tech Specialist, and Heavy Diesel Service Technician.
