Gwinnett County Veterinary Medical Association Awards First Scholarship to Gwinnett Tech Student

Gwinnett Technical College student Jennifer Berndt has been awarded the Gwinnett County Veterinary Medical Association's first merit-based scholarship. Berndt, of Buford, a second-year veterinary technology student, was awarded a $500 scholarship in a ceremony last week.

"Jennifer has consistently demonstrated both her scholastic aptitude and her strong commitment to the veterinary profession through her current and past experience as a veterinary assistant. With her deep passion to serve her community as an advocate for animals, she will further our profession in a positive way and is an exceptional choice for such award," says Dr. Chris Thomas, president, Gwinnett County Veterinary Medical Association.

The Gwinnett County Veterinary Medical Association works within the community to support the continued education of its 160 members, both veterinarians and veterinary technicians, so that they can better serve clients, their pets and the community.

"Jenny is a hard working student who has a great future to look forward to in veterinary technology. We're very appreciative of the Gwinnett VMA's support of Gwinnett Tech and our students," adds Dr. Bonnie Ballard, veterinary technology program director for Gwinnett Tech.

Gwinnett Tech offers an associate of applied science degree in veterinary technology. The program is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and graduates have maintained a near-perfect pass rate on the national exam since the program's inception.
