Many students come to Gwinnett Tech with some college credit already under their belt. In fact, more than 30 percent of our students have one to three years of college credit while almost 10 percent have a bachelor's degree or higher.
At Gwinnett Tech, transfer credit is evaluated as part of the admission process. Once official transcripts are received and evaluated, notification of approved transfer credit is sent to you as part of your acceptance packet.
The following process outlines the steps taken to determine your transfer credit:
- An official written record (transcript) is required from regionally accredited post-secondary schools which verifies a minimum grade of "C" in all courses for which you are seeking transfer credit to your program of study.
- A desktop review (evaluation of courses for transfer credit) is required. If a written course description is needed, it will be your responsibility to obtain appropriate course documentation.
- A structured interview may be required.
- Testing (written and performance) may be required. Other types of evaluations such as written testing and performance testing may be conducted on a program basis if, in the future, the need for such testing is indicated.
- Transfer credit for military service schools is awarded based on the American Council of Education (ACE) recommendations as listed in A Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services and the approval by the appropriate department chairperson/program director.
- Gwinnett Tech reserves the right to rescind previously awarded student course exemption under appropriate circumstances where conditions warrant.
- To receive a degree/diploma from Gwinnett Technical College, normally at least half of the program courses must be completed at Gwinnett Tech. (Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.)
In addition to receiving credits, courses can also transfer back out from Gwinnett Tech to a University System of Georgia institution (Georgia State and the University of Georgia, for example) or another technical college. Several freshman-level core courses are guaranteed to transfer to four-year colleges and universities throughout the state, and vice versa.
