Study and Travel Abroad Program
Gwinnett Technical College offers a Study and Travel Abroad Program designed to enrich students' educational experience. Gwinnett Tech's program is planned and facilitated by CEPA-Europe (Customized Educational Programs Abroad), a German-based company which was founded in 1997. CEPA Europe specializes in university level academic study abroad programs and works with over ninety partner colleges and universities throughout the USA and Canada to create customized, academically focused short-term, faculty-led programs throughout Europe, as well as internationally focused internship programs in Germany. Visits to multinational companies and organizations, guest lectures, as well as carefully selected cultural visits and excursions make the study abroad programs an extremely valuable and unforgettable experience for students and faculty members alike.
During a recent trip to Italy, students were able to visit the Coliseum, the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, Capitoline Museum, Bourghese Museum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill while in Rome. Experts in each city met with our group and led the historical tours and lectures. Following their Rome visit, the students and faculty travelled south along the Amalfi Coast and visited Herculaneum, Pompeii which was once covered by volcanic ashes. Additionally, students were able to travel to Amalfi, Positano, and Sorrento. While in the Sorrento area, students visited a lemoncello factory and later attended a cooking class before taking a boat over to the Isle of Capri for a beautiful day of sightseeing and swimming in the Blue Grotto. Study and Travel Abroad Programs give students and faculty the opportunity to see and experience history that is usually only realized through books, but students also learn a great deal about themselves. In a CEPA evaluation, we could see how horizons were expanded as the students reported that [they] "learned much more than from a classroom and a textbook!" "We learned that the world is different and different is OK!" "I learned the importance of understanding cultural diversity" and one student said, "I learned how to get along with others by learning most about MYSELF".
