Gwinnett Technical College Joins Achieving the Dream National Reform Network
GTC is one of 13 colleges selected from across the country to implement new tools and strategies for student success and completion
Achieving the Dream today welcomed its newest set of colleges, including Gwinnett Technical College (GTC), into the National Reform Network, which now counts more than 200 institutions working to significantly improve student success.
Gwinnett Tech will join 12 other institutions serving nearly 75,000 students throughout eight states to begin the challenging work of identifying and implementing evidence-based strategies for closing achievement gaps and increasing student retention, persistence, and completion rates.
"We believe in the power of education to change lives. Completing college – earning that graduation award – is life-changing for our students, their families and ultimately, our communities. We look forward to being a part of the Achieving the Dream initiative and to the positive impact the process will have on student success and equity," says Sharon Bartels, president, Gwinnett Tech. The Achieving the Dream 2013 Cohort includes:
"Becoming an Achieving the Dream Institution takes courage, diligence and an unrelenting institution-wide commitment to student success and equity," said William Trueheart, President and CEO of Achieving the Dream. "Gwinnett Technical College should be applauded for doing their part in the student success reform movement."
To set the stage for their work, the Achieving the Dream 2013 Cohort is participating in the 2013 Kickoff Institute in Orlando, June 17-20. The Institute will provide a forum for the colleges to work with their Leadership and Data Coaches and begin utilizing the Student Centered Model of Institutional Improvement.
At the Kickoff Institute, the 2013 Cohort will also receive a sneak preview of the Interventions Showcase. This unique tool, newly-created by Achieving the Dream, provides colleges a platform to explore student success interventions and to find colleges that are implementing similar strategies. Using information from the Interventions Showcase, the college can connect with others within the network to exchange ideas, challenges, and findings as they relate to specific interventions.
"Over the last 10 years, Achieving the Dream has collected important information about interventions that should be shared more broadly so that colleges can learn from one another," said Nicole Melander, Achieving the Dream's Chief Technology Officer. "We've worked hard to bring to our network a useful, informative tool that helps fill this void and feel confident that the benefits will be significant."
