Gwinnett Tech Adjunct Instructor Receives Regional Award for Proposal on Online Learning Communities
Gwinnett Technical College (GTC) adjunct English instructor Dr. Cynthia Gregory is the 2013 Nell Ann Pickett Award Winner, recognized by the Two-Year College English Association – Southeast (TYCA-SE).
The award recognizes an adjunct instructor at a two-year college or technical school who submits an outstanding conference proposal. As the award winner, Dr. Gregory was given a $550 stipend, a conference plaque, and the opportunity to present her proposal on the online learning community at this year's TYCA-SE conference in Greenville, S.C., February 28 – March 2.
"Cynde is an exceptional educator and we're tremendously proud of her recent achievement," says Dr. Victoria Seals, vice president of academic affairs for GTC. "She is enthusiastic about teaching English and she shows it every day in the classroom, preparing our students for their futures."
Dr. Gregory has been teaching at Gwinnett Tech for six years. Her poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction prose has appeared in many literary and regional magazines and she has received a number of awards, including the PEN Syndicated Fiction Award and the New York Foundation for the Arts Award. In addition to teaching at GTC, she is also a tutor of non-native English speakers.
"I'm both proud and humbled to receive this prize and I'm very excited about the upcoming conference where I will speak on how to inspire a vibrant online learning community," says Dr. Gregory.
The Two-Year College English Association Southeast (TYCA-SE) provides a variety of professional activities among English teachers in two-year colleges within Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. TYCA-SE is affiliated with the National Council Teachers of English (NCTE) and TYCA National.
