Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education to Visit Gwinnett Tech
Oct. 23 Bus Trip Will Highlight GTC's Use of Technology to Boost Student Success
Gwinnett Technical College (GTC) will be a stop on the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education's (GPEE) 2012 Bus Trip Across Georgia on Oct. 23, enabling more than 80 teachers, administrators and business and community leaders to learn about GTC's use of technology to boost student success.
GTC was one of only 10 public schools, among both K-12 and post-secondary, chosen for this year's 20th Bus Trip. The tour will stop at GTC's Lawrenceville campus at 10:30 a.m. on Tues., Oct. 23. Riders will be back on the bus for the next tour stop at 1 p.m.
The theme for this year's bus tour is "Georgia's Public Schools: Using Technology, Creating Pathways for Student Success."
Dr. Stephen Dolinger, president of the Partnership, said, "Our 2012 schools will provide multiple examples of how technology is being used to maximize learning and increase student achievement." He added, "We both celebrate achievement of these winning schools and showcase their exciting education ideas to the influencers who join us from all over the state."
"We are so proud to be a stop on this year's trip – and to be chosen as a leader in this area by the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education. We look forward to welcoming these leaders to our campus. We know the visit will be a great exchange of ideas and best practices among all involved," said Sharon Bartels, Gwinnett Tech president.
While at GTC, bus trip participants will tour the college's new Life Sciences Center, visiting the nursing lab and its patient simulators and the bioscience and DNA labs. Visitors will also see the Center's TEAL (Technology-Enabled Assisted Learning) classrooms and the Tandberg video conferencing system used by faculty and students. In the Health Sciences Building, bus riders will tour the Surgical Technology operating rooms and the new Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, plus try their hand on the driving simulator used by law enforcement students. The visit will conclude with a lunch prepared and served by GTC culinary arts students.
The tour, which includes a combination of educators, business, government and community leaders from around the state, began in 1993 and has been a fixture in state education circles every year since. The GPEE notes that "schools selected as Bus Trip 20 stops have demonstrated an ability to use technology to enhance learning, increase access, and to create opportunities to build the professional development of students and teachers alike."
