Gain OSHA Training through Construction Program

One part of you wants a career that you love; another part wants a job that is solid. Combine the two with Gwinnett Tech's residential construction program. A new addition to the program can even help get you employed!

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is stepping up its inspection efforts among home builders and, therefore, training in occupational safety and health standards has become a real necessity for those in the field.

Gwinnett Tech's residential construction program responded to that need when it recently became approved to offer OSHA safety training as part of its program. It is the first technical college in the state to do so.

All graduates of the college's residential construction programs are now permitted to carry the official OSHA 10-hour safety card. Students in the Commercial Construction Management Program gain their OSHA 30-hour safety card.

Kenny Adkins, carpentry and residential construction program manager at Gwinnett Tech, says graduates with OSHA training will significantly increase their employability. "The more employees a company has with OSHA safety cards, the less expensive their insurance rates become. This makes a job candidate that has earned his/her OSHA card a more attractive candidate than one who has not earned the credentials," Adkins said.

The college's residential construction management programs prepares students to become framing carpenters, finish carpenters, form builders, roofers, siders, cabinetmakers, foremen, superintendents, estimators, contractors and sub-contractors.

The Residential Construction Management associate degree takes eight to nine quarters to complete.

Both the Residential and Commercial Construction Management associate degrees take eight to nine quarters to complete.
