Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded to students meeting the specific requirements of each scholarship foundation. Scholarships do not need to be repaid, and eligibility may or may not be dependent on financial need.
Gwinnett Tech offers scholarships through three sources: the Gwinnett Tech Foundation, various business- and civic-sponsored scholarships and through the Georgia HOPE scholarship.
| Eligibility: |
In order to qualify for a scholarship provided from the Assistance League of Atlanta Scholarship Fund, a student must:
- be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the state of Georgia
- have a GPA of 2.5
- demonstrate financial need with copy of previous year’s income tax return
- demonstrate in a letter a willingness and record of service to the community and how this scholarship will benefit the applicant and his/her future educational plans.
Application cannot be processed unless all required documentation is attached to application at the time of submittal. |
| Termination: |
If the recipient fails to enroll, withdraws from the college or does not maintain eligibility requirements, the Gwinnett Tech Foundation will select another student if time permits; otherwise, funds will be held in the Donor’s account to be carried over to the next quarter. |
| Award: |
Three scholarships of $1,500 each are to be awarded for use from Fall Quarter through graduation in the program begun with use of scholarship funds. Funds are to be used for tuition, books, or program supplies. Before funds will be disbursed, the Foundation Office must receive a note of thanks from the recipient to the donor(s) to be mailed by the Foundation Office. |

| Eligibility: |
In order to qualify for the Bob Talley Scholarship, a student must:
- have been a student at Maxwell High School
- have been accepted as a full-time student (12 credit hours) into a program
- have maintained a minimum grade point average of 2.5
- have written an essay on how this scholarship will benefit educational pursuits, approximately 500 words, typed and double-spaced
- have received a written recommendation for the scholarship from a high school guidance counselor or college faculty member, an advisor, a teacher, or a recognized professional person such as his/her employer
Application cannot be processed unless all required documentation is attached to application at the time of submittal. |

The Gwinnett Tech Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee will select and notify the scholarship recipient. |
| Termination: |
If the recipient fails to enroll, withdraws from college, or does not maintain eligibility requirements, the Foundation will select another student if time permits; otherwise, funds will be held in the Donor’s account to be carried over to the next quarter. |

One scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded for the academic year, Summer Quarter through Spring Quarter. Scholarship funds are to be used for tuition, books, or program supplies. |

In order to qualify for a scholarship provided from Careerbuilder.com a student must:
- demonstrate financial need with a copy of the previous year’s income tax return
- demonstrate a potential for success at Gwinnett Tech
- be accepted or enrolled in a Business, Finance or Computer Science Degree Program
- be employed in a full-time or part-time job
- Have maintained a minimum grade point average of 2.5 or its equivalent in the high school or college that the student last attended
- Have received a written recommendation for the scholarship from a high school guidance counselor or college faculty advisor, teacher, or recognized professional person such as his/her employer
Application cannot be processed unless all required documentation is attached to application at the time of submittal. |

The Careerbuilder.com Scholarship Selection Committee shall select and shall notify the scholarship recipient. |
| Termination: |
If the recipient fails to enroll, withdraws from college, or does not maintain eligibility requirements, the Careerbuilder.com Scholarship Selection Committee will select another student if time permits; otherwise, funds will be held in the Donor’s account to be carried over to the next quarter. |
| Award: |
It is the Donor’s intent that a scholarship in the amount of five hundred dollars and no cents ($500.00) be awarded annually for use during the academic year, Summer Quarter through Spring Quarter. Before funds will be disbursed, the Foundation Office must receive a note of thanks for the recipient to the donor(s) to be mailed by the Foundation Office |

In order to be eligible for a Gwinnett Technical College CIS Advisory Board Scholarship, a student must:
- have been accepted into a Computer Information Systems degree or diploma program of study
- have a GPA of 2.5
- currently be enrolled in a CIS program of study
- receive a written letter of recommendation from a CIS Program fulltime or adjunct faculty member
- prepare a letter expressing how the scholarship will benefit the applicant and his/her future educational plans and career goals
- demonstrate potential for success in information technology
Application cannot be processed unless all required documentation is attached to application at the time of submittal. |

The CIS Advisory Board Scholarship Committee will select and notify the scholarship recipients. |
| Award: |
$1000 Scholarship – 1 per year to a CIS third quarter student
$500 Scholarship – 1 per year to a CIS third quarter student
$250 Scholarship – 2 per year to a CIS third quarter student
Note: Additional scholarships may be offered provided funding is available Scholarship awards will be made at the Gwinnett Technical College Annual Awards Day in May. |

- complete the application and a letter expressing how this scholarship will benefit the applicant and future educational plans

The funds (a total of $250) can be disbursed over a period of four consecutive quarters. Applicants can receive the scholarship no more than two times during a twelve-month period. |

| Eligibility: |
In order to qualify for a Scott Hudgens Scholarship, a student must:
- be a graduate of a Gwinnett County public high school or the Buford City Public High School and be enrolled in Gwinnett Technical College within one year after high school graduation.
- be ineligible for HOPE Scholarships. Student must have:
- technical diploma: less than a 3.2 GPA
- college prep diploma: less than a 3.0 GPA
- combined diploma: less than 3.2 GPA in technical studies and less than 3.0 GPA in college prep studies
- exemplify leadership potential
- have the ability to excel in today's technical education classroom environment
- demonstrate potential for success in his/her chosen profession
- provide written references from two (2) teachers and from his/her high school guidance counselor
- provide high school transcript
- provide an essay of approximately 300 words, typed and double-spaced, addressing reason(s) for applying for the scholarship and short-range and long-range career goal(s)
- demonstrate success in previous work experiences
- be an Associate Degree candidate. The Hudgens Scholarship will fund developmental courses

| Continuation: |
If the award winner maintains at least a 2.5 GPA during his/her freshman year at Gwinnett Technical College (four quarters), the award may be granted for a second year. Applicant should submit application for the additional year by application deadline (no additional documentation necessary other than the completed application form.) |
| Award: |
As many as twenty-eight (28) individuals may be awarded scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each. The $2,500 may be used for tuition, books, or program supplies beginning the quarter following award approval. The funds (a total of $2,500) can be disbursed over a period of four consecutive quarters. |

In order to qualify for a scholarship provided from the Gwinnett Tech Jean Sheaffer Scholarship Fund, a student must:
- have been in the PreGED/Adult Basic Education Program or the GED Preparation Program at Gwinnett Tech for at least three months
- be a Gwinnett County resident
- have two letters of recommendation, one of which is from an ABE/GED instructor
- submit a one-page letter explaining educational and future training goals
- present information about the class in which the applicant wishes to enroll: Developmental Studies, Continuing Education or credit classes
Application cannot be processed unless all required documentation is attached to application at the time of submittal. |

A committee made up of personnel from the ABE/GED program will select the scholarship recipient. |
| Termination: |
If the recipient fails to enroll, withdraws from college, or does not maintain eligibility requirements, the Gwinnett Tech Foundation will select another student if time permits; otherwise, funds will be held in the Donor’s account to be carried over to the next quarter. |
| Award: |
One $250 scholarship to be used during an academic year, Summer Quarter through Spring Quarter. Scholarship funds are to be used for tuition, books or program supplies and used solely for the benefit of the individual receiving the scholarship. Before funds will be disbursed, the Foundation Office must receive a note of thanks from the recipient to the donor(s) to be mailed by the Foundation Office. |

| Eligibility: |
In order to qualify for a $500.00 scholarship provided from the Lilburn Women's Club, a student must:
- be a woman who is a single parent or a displaced homemaker,
- be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident alien,
- plan to or currently attend Gwinnett Tech,
- provide a student transcript if a current Gwinnett Tech student, OR Provide evidence of application and program applied for at Gwinnett Tech,
- complete an autobiographical statement which includes:
- full name, address, and telephone number
- circumstances that put the student in his/her current situation
- reasons the student feels education from Gwinnett Tech will advance him/her
- the student's future plans
- attend the Lilburn Woman's Club Awards Recognition.
Application cannot be processed unless all required documentation is attached to application at the time of submittal. |
| Termination: |
Recipient is invited and expected to attend a Scholarship Reception/Meeting of the Lilburn Woman's Club on the first Thursday in May. |

- Essay of 200 words or less stating the reason you should be considered for a Rotary Vocational Scholarship, addressing items A, B, and C.

- be a veteran or a dependent child of a veteran and provide proof of veteran affiliation
- be ineligible for VA education benefits; provide documentation of ineligibility
- be a program bound full-time student (12 credit hours) who is enrolled and in good standing or an applicant for a regular program at Gwinnett Technical College
- provide information for evaluation for work completed at Gwinnett Technical College (2.5 GPA), high school transcript (2.5 GPA or its equivalent in the high school [technical or college prep program] or in the college last attended), GED scores, and entrance test scores
- Submit an essay of approximately 300 words addressing:
- reason(s) for applying for the scholarship
- short-range and long-range goal(s)
Application cannot be processed unless all required documentation is attached to application at the time of submittal. |
| Selection: |
The Gwinnett Tech Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee will select and notify the scholarship recipient. The Donor will be notified after the selection process is completed regarding the names of the recipients. In order to be selected for a second scholarship, the scholarship recipient must resubmit the application, but no other documentation. |
| Termination: |
In the event the recipient terminates school, fails to carry a full-time load or achieves less than a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, the scholarship will terminate. An interruption of more than one quarter will result in termination. |
| Award: |
One scholarship in the amount of $250 for one quarter will be awarded for the academic year, Summer Quarter through Spring Quarter. Scholarship funds must be used for tuition, required books, or program supplies. |
